OTTUMWA — Ronald “Ron” A. Carr, 70, of 902 Albia Road, died at 12:05
p.m. April 16, 2011, at Hospice House.
He was born July 16, 1940, in Ottumwa to Don A. and Margery
McLaughlin Carr. He married Lura Louise Gibson on Dec. 23, 1960, in
Ottumwa.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School, he served in the Marine Corps and
then the National Guard in Colorado.
He worked for John Deere Ottumwa Works 12 years and later was an
over-the-road truck driver.
He was a member of the First Church of the Open Bible and Evening
Lions. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, refinishing furniture and
NASCAR.
Surviving are his wife, Lura; his brother, Mike D. (Diana) Carr of
Ottumwa; a son, Rev. Gregory S. (Debbie) Carr of Bismark, N.D.; a
daughter, Joanna (Jay) Butler of Ottumwa; five grandchildren, Megan
(Joseph) Leach, Heidi Butler, Chantelle Carr, Kyle Butler and
Danielle Carr; a great-grandson, Jaxon Butler.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandsons, Bradly
and Brandon Butler.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Church of the
Open Bible with Rev. Bill Hornback officiating. Burial will be in
Memorial Lawn Cemetery with military services conducted by O.B.
Nelson Post #3 of the American Legion and Walter B. Schafer #775
Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with
the family present from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.
