OTTUMWA — Matt L. Lawrence III, formerly of Bismarck, N.D. and Ottumwa, and recently of Park Rapids, Minn. and Crossville, Tenn., died Aug. 7, 2012. Matt wrote the following:
I was born in Ottumwa, Iowa in 1941. Met my wife Susan (Saxvik) upon my return from Viet Nam where I served with the 173rd Airborne Brigade. Worked in the oil business in North Dakota during which time Susan and I had three wonderful children, now three wonderful adults. If I accomplished anything good in my lifetime it was having the best kids any father could ever hope for. My life was full of love, fun, adventure and many good times. A wonderful wife, good kids—I couldn't have asked for more.
I am survived by my wife Susan; my children, Erin Hennessy (Kevin), Matt Lawrence IV (Jennifer) and Andrew P. Lawrence; three grandchildren, Lydia, Max and Aida; a sister, Neala Benson (Chuck); and a constant companion, Jack.
I was preceded in death by my parents, Matt and Edna Lawrence, and by my second parents, Dale and Marlys Saxvik.
Matt also greatly enjoyed his in-laws, nieces and nephews, and many good friends.
Services were held in Bismarck.
