OTTUMWA — , 68, of 825 W. Williams St., died Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at
Iowa Methodist in Des Moines. He was born July 31, 1941, in
Knoxville, Iowa, to Marion and Inez Bowman Schippers. He married
Sally Dye in Ottumwa on March 27, 1982.Don graduated from Ottumwa High
School in 1959. He worked for Grooms and Company for many years. Don was
an avid sports fan and huge Hawkeye fan. Don's passion was golf and he
was well-known for his cooking. He cherished spending time with family.
Survivors include his wife, Sally; two sons, Bryan and Neil Schippers;
four daughters, Cindy Echols, Amy Schippers, Tina Cunningham and Tonya
Simonsen; two brothers, Robert and John Schippers; four sisters, Beverly
Nicholson, Nancy Kancel, Sherra Hummer and Dee Grace; and numerous
grandchildren and great-grandchildren that he loved and enjoyed.He was
preceded in death by his parents. According to his wishes,
cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of his life will
be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at First Pentecostal Assembly of
God Church with Pastor Richard Schlotter officiating. Memorials
may be made to the family. Robertson-Jay Funeral Home in charge of
