Sharon Lynn Eakins, 81, of Ottumwa, died under hospice care at 6:03 p.m. October 5, 2022 at Good Samaritan Society – Ottumwa.
She was born February 2, 1941 in Ottumwa to Richard James and Doris Maxine Barker Babcock and was raised by her maternal grandparents, Sam and Wilma Barker. Sharon married Donald Dean Eakins January 28, 1961 and he preceded her in death October 14, 2016.
A 1959 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Sharon attended Carl Sandburg college in Galesburg, Illinois. Sharon was a CNA for Galesburg Hospital and Knoxville County Nursing Home in Illinois. She and her husband owned and operated Indian Point Campgrounds for 25 years from 1981 to 2005.
Sharon was a member of Way of Peace Ministries.
Surviving is a daughter, Connie R. Eakins of St. Louis; sons, Scott Eakins of Ottumwa, Ryan Eakins of Arlington, TX and Chris (Terri) Eakins of Canton, IL; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Richard (Bev) Babcock and Terry Babcock; and half-brothers, Eugene, Scott, and Mark Poulton.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Judi Lobberecht and a half-brother, David Poulton.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, October 10th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will open after 9 a.m. Monday, October 10th at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends 1 hour prior to the service on Monday.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties.
