RUTH ROTH BARKERRuth Roth Barker, age 97, was born January 2, 1905 in Wayland, Iowa to William and Eva Roth and passed away at the Wayne County Hospital October 1, 2002. She was united in marriage to Dennis D. Barker in 1930. Ruth received her Bachelors of Arts and Master of Arts degree from the University of Iowa. She taught many years at the Ottumwa High School and Several years at Lineville High School. She was also an instructor at the University of Iowa after her receiving her Masters degree. Ruth was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, AAUW, King’s Daughters, PEO, UMW, and a long time member of the Cordon Methodist Church. She was the church organist for 24 years, retiring in 1991. Ruth will be remembered in many, many ways: for the accolades of her former students that visited her and wrote to her; for her quick mind and humor, keeping up with current event to the end; her ability to converse with the young and old; her classic way of dressing; and her much younger than her years looks. Everyone that knew her has a special memory of their own. Her parents, sister Wilma Roth Miller and her beloved husband Dennis preceded her in death. Ruth is survived by her
nephew Mark Miller (Mayre) of Tucson, Arizona, niece Elizabeth Lundbeck of
Lakeville, Minnesota; and four grand nieces and nephews: Mark Miller,
Dianna Nottingham, John Miller and Laura Lundbeck and a host of friends.
