OTTUMWA – Variel D. Overturf, 72, of 1135 Monroe Ave. died at 12:18 p.m. November 8, 2013 at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

He was born May 25, 1941 in Ottumwa to George “Jiggs” and Virginia Tully Overturf. He married Judith Devilbiss October 9, 1982. She preceded him in death February 29, 2000.

He owned and operated the Pizza House on Church St. He served in and was clerk for the U.S. Army Reserves in Mt. Pleasant. In 1985 he moved to Georgia where he worked construction and was an accountant. He moved back to Ottumwa in 2005.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #233 in Loganville, GA.

Surviving is a sister, Pam (Bill) Kingery of Ottumwa; a stepdaughter, Deb Burden of Burlington; a stepson, Tony (Lynne) Burden of Tennessee; a step grandson; two nieces and five nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth Overturf.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Barnett officiating. Military services will be conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Cremation will follow the services.

Visitation will be open after 11 a.m. Tuesday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
