Larry V. "Mac" McCarty |
OTTUMWA-Larry V. “Mac” McCarty, 74, of 6132 Cliffland Rd., passed peacefully at 1:45 a.m. October 27, 2015 at Ridgewood Nursing & Rehab Center. He was born January 6, 1941 in Ottumwa to Waldo and Bertha Orman McCarty. A graduate of Ottumwa High School and Northeast Missouri State University, Larry taught Driver’s Education and Industrial Arts for 31 years at Ottumwa High School, retiring in 1997. He was class sponsor in 1971 at Ottumwa High School. Since 2001, he had hosted the draft horse plowing exhibition. Surviving is a nephew, Gary McCarty of Afton; three nieces, Cindy (Kevin) Edgington of Bloomfield, Sharon McCarty of Glenwood and Karen Jo (Manly) McCarty of Floris; a dear friend, Dan Fisher; his dogs, Queen Blackie Girl, Huey, Dewey and Louise. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Darrell McCarty. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. David Albert officiating. Burial will be in McIntire Cemetery. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
