Obituary for Mary Kay 'Kay' Logan
Kattskill Bay – Mary Kay ‘Kay’ Logan, 73, of Kattskill Bay, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Glens Falls Hospital after a brief struggle with cancer.
Kay was born on December 18, 1940 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of the late John A. and Mary A. (Carey) Logan.
She graduated from Ottumwa High School and attended the University of Iowa and Parsons College.
Kay raised two children, Anne E. Gray and John L. Gray, with her former husband, Richard W. Gray of Queensbury, NY. Throughout her life, Kay lived in Massachusetts, Old Westbury, Plattsburg and Rexford, NY before retiring to Kattskill Bay in Lake George, NY, where she resided for the past 20 years.
She was an active supporter and volunteer at a number of church and health and human services agencies, including the Northeast Parent and Child Society, the Leukemia Society, Glens Falls Food Pantry, North Country Ministry and Sacred Heart “Renew” group, where she met many wonderful friends.
Kay was a wonderful cook and feeding people brought her great joy. She loved to decorate, whether it be for Christmas or for her home, as well as traveling and having fun with her family and friends. Bringing people together from all walks of life thru her willingness to help anyone in need was also a joy to her. Kay was a generous person and a wonderful mother, daughter, sister, wife, aunt, cousin, neighbor and friend. She was a warm and gracious soul who will be sorely missed by the many people whose lives she touched.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Judith Logan Legnard, a nephew, John Evan Logan her step mother, Erna Logan, and a step sister, Donna Howe Hahn.
Kay is survived by her daughter, Anne Gray and her fiancé, Dr. Bryan C. Kramer, of Denver, Colorado, and her son, John L. Gray, of Queensbury. Also surviving Kay is her brother, John Christopher (Carol) Logan, of Ottumwa, IA; step brothers, Dale (Jeannie) Howe, of Ottumwa, IA, Darryl (Janice) Howe, of Naperville, Il and Dennis (Joanne) Howe, of Rockford, IL; two nephews, Ian and Aaron Logan, both of Ottumwa, IA; and her brother-in-law, Robert Legnard of Queensbury, NY and many cousins, step niece and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 50 Mohican Street, Lake George, NY.
No calling hours are scheduled and burial will be held private for the family.
At Kay’s request a nursing scholarship has been established at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, IA, in the names of Kay and her mother, Mary.
