OTTUMWA — James “Jim” K. Butler, 71, of 7119 University Dr., Shreveport, LA, formerly of Ottumwa, died October 7, 2012 at Willis Knighton North in Shreveport.
He was born February 26, 1941 in Ottumwa to Oswald O. and Edith M. Bainbridge Butler. He married Judy E. Craft on November 20, 1960.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School and Parsons College, he had worked as a commodity broker and an insurance and investment agent.
While in Ottumwa he was a member, deacon and treasurer of First Presbyterian Church. He was treasurer and served on numerous committees of the Jaycees and he served on the board of the Credit Bureau of Ottumwa. In Shreveport he was a member and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church. He was the Cubmaster for Pack 4 Cub Scouts and he was director and served on the board of Northwest Louisiana Food Bank where he directed the coordination of donations from all over the nation during Hurricane Katrina.
Surviving is his wife of 51 years, Judy; two daughters, Julie Dean and husband Jim and Jill Butler and partner Donna Bryant; two grandchildren, Justin William Dean and fiancé Carrie Sullivan (Austin, TX) and Jentry Butler Dean all of Shreveport, LA; a sister, Norma Jeanne Handy and husband Verle of Ottumwa; and mother-in-law, Betty Craft Grogan of Ottumwa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Clayton Craft.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Donna Vaughn officiating. Burial will be in the McCormick Cemetery near Highland Center.
Visitation begins at 2 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Jim Dean, Justin Dean, Jentry Dean, Terry Handy, Craig Handy and Nathan Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Verle Handy and Gary Gobble.
