Jerry RainesOTTUMWA-Jerry Leroy “Pop Bottle” Raines, 73, of Ottumwa, died at 9:01 a.m. August 9, 2014 at his home after a long battle with cancer.

He was born February 3, 1941 in Ottumwa to Charles and Mildred Anderson Raines. He married Linda Postlewait on October 10, 1998.

A 1959 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Jerry had lived in the Quad City area for several years before moving back to Ottumwa in 1996. He had recently worked for 10-15 Transit and for Ottumwa Transit.

In his younger years, he enjoyed racing cars and working on them with his brother-in-law, Dean Weir. For the last several years, he has enjoyed living on his small farm with his wife and their many animals. Jerry enjoyed camping, dancing, fishing, watching NASCAR and going to music festivals with his wife and dear friends. He also enjoyed attending Miller Chapel Church. Jerry was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Surviving is his wife, Linda; two sons, Jerry Raines Jr. of Springfield, MO and Waylon (Vivian) Raines of Blakesburg; a step-son, David McCall of Ottumwa; three step-daughters, Carol Steen (Scott Replogle) of Ottumwa, Tammy (Kenny) Boxx of Ottumwa, Kim (Jon) Cloyd of Dubuque; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elsie (Dean) Weir of Kirkville, Bettie Cowger of Ottumwa and Barbara (Kenny) Milhouse of Downing, MO.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Russell Anderson, Charles Raines, Francis Raines and Evan Raines; a granddaughter, Abby Raines and a grandson, Tayton Cloyd.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Fiedler officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Thursday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials may be made to Miller Chapel or to the family to be designated at a later date.
