Dick Scott

OTTUMWA – Dick L. Scott, 74, of 1312 Casper St., died at 3:35 a.m. July 23, 2015 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

He was born November 19, 1940 in Bloomfield to Harry S. and Maggie Jane Johnson Scott. He married Brenda Frazier on July 1, 1958.

A graduate of Ottumwa High School, Dick lived in Kansas City, Missouri and Jefferson City, Missouri from 1985 to 2004, when he returned to Ottumwa.

He had worked as a locomotive engineer for the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroads. Dick had been the National Director of Operations for Jaeger & Jungbauer Barristers PLC of St. Paul, Minnesota. He was also a licensed real estate broker in Iowa and Missouri.

He was a member of Davis St. Christian Church, a 50 year member of Ottumwa Masonic Lodge #16 A.F. & A.M., a member of Clinton Chapter #9, Ottumwa Council #31, Malta Commandery #31, a member and past president of Ottumwa Shrine Club, and a member and Past Patron of Rose Chapter Order of Eastern Star. He was also the longest living member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers & Trainmen.

Surviving is his wife, Brenda; a son, Vincent Scott of Ottumwa; three grandchildren, Christopher, Brooke and Dominique; two great-grandchildren, Parker Ryan and Athena; three sisters, Beverly (Terry) Harris, Nancy Crawford and Annabell Kimball; a sister-in-law, Louise Wheaton; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several half-brothers and half-sisters.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Reverend James H. Wakelin officiating. Cremation will follow the services.

Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Sunday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
