OTTUMWA — William James "Bill" Schwartz, 75, of Maple Grove, passed away Feb. 1, 2016.
Bill was born in Ottumwa on Dec. 31, 1940, to Orrin and Pauline Schwartz. He graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1959 and then continued his education, earning a B.A. degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1964 as well as a certificate of physical therapy from the University of Iowa in 1968. He taught school from 1964-67 and went on to spend most of his physical therapy career practicing in and directing a physical therapy department. In Bill’s younger years, sports were his life, which earned him an induction into the University of Northern Iowa Football Hall of Fame in 2015. He was always an avid fisherman, outdoorsman and a skilled woodworker.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joy; children, Dondi (Scott) Kazukewicz, Darcy (Andrew) Reisman, Lisa Schwartz and Ryan (Jamie Geer) Schwartz; grandchildren, Brenden Kazukewicz, Mackenzie Peterson, Ava Reisman and Seth Reisman; siblings, Sharon (Les) Aasheim, David (Rose) Schwartz and Steve (Sharon) Schwartz; as well as many cousins, double cousins and other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Orrin and Pauline Schwartz; and daughter, Su Lynn.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Osseo United Methodist Church, 16 Second Ave. SE, Osseo, with visitation one hour prior to the service. A gathering of friends and family will follow the service at church.
Memorials preferred to Osseo United Methodist Church or Park Nicollet Hospice.
