OTTUMWA — Marjory Jean Coyne Lanphier, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed with grace from this earth on November 7th, 2008 at her home in Oklahoma City, Okla., after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in rural Ottumwa and reached the great age of 67. She dedicated her life to the service of her fellows as a registered nurse, beginning her career in 1962 after graduating from the Saint Joseph’s Hospital Nursing School in Ottumwa. She started her work with children in pediatric care and ended it easing the final moments of the dying and their families. Marge spent the last twelve years of her life working for the Good Shepherd Hospice Service in Oklahoma City, Okla.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Rose (Hendricks) and Linus Coyne of Ottumwa, Iowa, and by an infant brother. She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Eugene Lanphier of Oklahoma City, Okla., son Michael Brothers of Ames, daughter Lori McCarthy of Ankeny, and daughter Erin Brothers Smith of Iowa City. She is also survived by her sisters Maxine Lewis, Rosalie Ream and Betty Walker all of Ottumwa, and Sue Wirtjes of Forest City, as well as brothers Ronald Coyne and Richard Coyne, both of Ottumwa. Marge had four stepchildren, Jenny, Stacy, Wes and Glen; 12 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church with Rev. John Spiegel officiating. Burial will be in Chillicothe Cemetery. 

Visitation will be open after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. A Christian Wake service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, honoraria be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice Service, 4350 Will Rogers Parkway, Ste. 400., Oklahoma City, OK  73108
